West Ham United trying to bring striker with 208 career goals back to Premier League

West Ham United are said to be trying to bring a striker back to the Premier League who left London only last year.

The upcoming January transfer window will be a vitally important one for West Ham manager David Moyes, with the addition of a new striker needed urgently at the London Stadium.

The Hammers are doing really well in the Premier League, but the addition of a new forward would take us to a whole new level entirely.

Moyes has already been linked with numerous strikers over the past month or so, including the likes of PSG hitman Hugo Ekitike and Montpellier forward Akor Adams.

During Michail Antonio’s absence, the Hammers have been playing with an interchangeable front three of Lucas Paqueta, Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus.

And whilst those three have been sensational, the addition of a top-class centre-forward would allow either Kudus or Paqueta to move into the number 10 role. Can you imagine how dangerous we would be then!

Well, it seems like there’s every chance that could happen this winter…

West Ham United line up striker signing

According to Give Me Sport, Moyes is exploring the possibility of bringing Timo Werner back to the Premier League from RB Leipzig ahead of the January window opening.

The 27-year-old has proven in the past just how good he is, but his poor form this season with Leipzig has led to him being linked with a move back to the Premier League with West Ham chasing his signature.

I actually think the would be a brilliant signing for the Hammers, as long as he manages to rediscover his form from a few years ago.

Werner rejoined Leipzig from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for around £25 million (Sky Sports), but his second stay with the Bundesliga side could be a short-lived one.

The 57-capped Germany international is absolutely rapid and would fit into Moyes’s counter attacking set up like a glove.

Werner’s speed and willingness to run into the channels would create so much space for the likes of Kudus, Paqueta and Bowen to do their stuff.

Werner has only scored two goals in 14 games for Leipzig so far this season – hardly prolific by any means. However, he bagged 28 goals in 34 Bundesliga games for them in the 2019/20 season, and has 208 in 467 career games to his name (Transfermarkt).

The German’s talent and ability is undeniable. He has gone through a difficult period over the past couple of years, but I reckon his playing style would suit us down to the ground.

And if West Ham United manage to sign the RB Leipzig striker in January, I reckon we’ll be on to something very exciting indeed.
