West Ham enquired about appointing Unai Emery as manager before he took over at Aston Villa in October.
Unai Emery took over from Steven Gerrard at Aston Villa six months ago, but not before West Ham explored the possibility of bringing him to the London Stadium.
That’s according to The Guardian who claim that the Hammers hit a dead end when making enquiries for the 51-year-old ex-Villarreal boss to replace David Moyes at the London Stadium.

Moyes was under real pressure at the London Stadium just before the World Cup break last year, and that continued on into the new year.
However, that pressure was alleviated recently after West Ham took four points from our games against Fulham and Arsenal.
It seems as though the Hammers board were very keen to make a managerial change earlier on in the campaign though…
West Ham made Unai Emery enquiry before he took over at Aston Villa
The Guardian reckon that the Hammers made an informal move to bring Emery to the London Stadium earlier this season.
See, I find this one hard to believe. If we genuinely did make moves to appoint Emery, why would our enquires have gone nowhere?
If Emery was willing to take over at Villa why was he not keen on the Hammers job? We had European football on offer after all – something that the 51-year-old has become somewhat of a specialist in.

It’s either lazy journalism or West Ham made such a derogatory offer that it put the Spaniard off immediately.
The former Arsenal and Sevilla manager has worked wonders since moving to Villa Park in October last year.
He has taken the Villans from relegation trouble up into sixth place in the Premier League table, just six points adrift of the Champions League places.
I firmly believe that had Unai Emery taken over at West Ham instead of Aston Villa, we would be in a far stronger position now than the one we’re in.
