West Ham stunned after Erik Ten Hag performed a compete U-turn on ‘unplayable’ Manchester United ace Aaron Wan-Bissaka last night.

The Hammers have been heavily linked with a move to sign the 25-year-old Manchester United right-back in the January transfer window (90 Min).

And Wan-Bissaka joining West Ham this winter seemed like a fairly likely outcome after Ten Hag recently hinted that the defender could be on his way out of Old Trafford.

Manchester Evening News also claimed that the Dutchman is keen to sell the ex-Crystal Palace ace this winter.

And now it seems as though Ten Hag has performed a complete and utter Wan-Bissaka U-turn.

That’s unfortunate for Hammers boss David Moyes. The Scot desperately needs to bolster this right-back ranks at the London Stadium in January.

Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson have regressed badly over the past 6-12 months, and Moyes unquestionably needs to bring in an upgrade on both of those.

Wan-Bissaka would have been exactly that, but there was some bad news for the Hammers overnight…

Ten Hag makes Wan-Bissaka U-turn

The Manchester United boss waxed lyrical about the 25-year-old Man United right-back, following his side’s Carabao Cup win over Burnley last night.

Ten Hag told reporters just how impressed he was with Wan-Bissaka’s display, as quoted by Manchester Evening News:

Aaron Wan-Bissaka: it’s clear he has a future. He had some good years here at Man United, but from the start this season he had a lot of illnesses and injuries, so running behind. From the restart on he is fit and he could train with the team and you see him progressing, his fitness levels getting better, his performance levels getting better and I’m really happy today with his performance. He gave an assist – especially the way he gave the assist – about his movement in the right moment and timing, and of course a great pass by Bruno [Fernandes], but the assist is great. I’m happy with his performance. He did good.

It’s clear to see from those comments that Ten Hag has absolutely no interest in allowing Wan-Bissaka to leave Manchester United in January.

So it’s very much back to the drawing board for David Moyes.

Much will depend on whether Ten Hag backs up his words with actions. Should Wan-Bissaka continue to sit on the bench for Manchester United in the Premier League towards the end of next month, perhaps he will push for a move away from Old Trafford.

Whatever happens though, it seems like West Ham will really have our work cut out now if we are to sign the Man United right-back in January.
