West Ham reporter shares board source’s 3-word response when asked if Graham Potter could be a replacement for David Moyes

West Ham United boss David Moyes is under real pressure after the 6-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, and Graham Potter is being mentioned yet again as a potential replacement for the Scot.

David Moyes is feeling the heat at West Ham right now, so could former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter really be his replacement?

The 48-year-old has been out of work since April after Chelsea sacked him with the west London outfit sitting in 11th place in the table. This was around about the time that he was first actually linked with the Hammers job.

Potter is a well-renowned ‘trust the process’ manager. It takes time for his ideas and philosophies to bed in but when they do, the football really is very pleasing on the eye.

His first three seasons with Brighton saw the Seagulls finish in 15th, 16th and the 9th place in the Premier League table.

Then, he got Brighton up to fourth in the table after six games before he left to join Chelsea. So those numbers are all evidence of a long process working out in the end. There are two questions though, 1) do the West Ham fans have the stomach for a long drawn out process, and more importantly 2) is he even on the list of potential replacements for Moyes?

Could Graham Potter be a replacement for David Moyes

Claret and Hugh have provided an update on Moyes’s current situation at the London Stadium.

They asked their top board source about the chances of Potter replacing the 60-year-old Scot and received a three-word response:

“He isn’t fancied.”

Fair enough then! The thing is, any club that appoints Potter will need to be prepared for a long drawn out process.

Results definitely won’t come instantly – that’s the reason why he was such a bizarre appointment by Chelsea!

I would be ok with a process manager – someone who beds in his ideas and philosophies over a period of time, as long as there is evidence that what he’s trying to do is working.

I’m not saying that Graham Potter would be a good replacement for David Moyes, nor am I saying he’d be a bad one. I would actually prefer someone like Ruben Amorim Arne Slot – managers who have a history of winning things as well as deploying a beautiful brand of football.

One thing’s for sure, if West Ham’s current form continues, it won’t be too long before the owners are forced into action.
