David Moyes makes utterly bizarre Kalvin Phillips admission that raises very big question

David Moyes has just been incredibly honest about his feelings on Kalvin Phillips after he brought him to West Ham United in the January transfer window.

Kalvin Phillips was brought to West Ham by David Moyes in the January transfer window, but he is clearly nowhere near full fitness just yet.

The 28-year-old midfielder started for the Hammers against Bournemouth last Thursday, but was then dropped down to the bench for our clash with Manchester United on Sunday – something that Roy Keane thinks would have really angered the midfielder.

I must admit, I really don’t get why Moyes didn’t ease him into action from the bench against the Cherries, and then he could have started him at Old Trafford for our clash with Man United.

However, the Scot has just made something very clear when it comes to the role he sees Phillips playing at West Ham…

David Moyes makes utterly bizarre Kalvin Phillips admission

The Scot has been speaking to reporters ahead of our clash with Arsenal at the London Stadium tomorrow.

And Moyes bizarrely suggested that Phillips is not a shoo-in to start regularly for the Hammers, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“We brought him in to to be to be a key player for us. I believe he will be. I think he is going to take a little bit of time just to get himself back up and running, but that’s fine. I’ve got no problem with that. We’ve got good midfield players. He’s in addition to them. I need him to supplement what I’ve got – help out through injuries and suspension, and hopefully he’s form would mean that he is always a starter. We’re happy to give them a bit of time and let him break his way in.”

Phillips is clearly not a guaranteed starter in Moyes’s eyes judging by those comments.

Also the fact Moyes has said we’re happy to give him a bit time…he’s only here for a few months! I get that he’s not fully fit yet but seriously, come on.

Surely Phillips agreed to join David Moyes at West Ham on the proviso that he would play week-in, week out.

I’m hoping that Moyes was just being coy with his comments. If Phillips is fit, then I have no doubts in my mind that he’ll be starting pretty much every single game for us. If not, and the 28-year-old really has got a battle on his hands for regular football at the London Stadium, the midfielder surely won’t be happy one little bit.
