West Ham owners perfect 2-week period to sack David Moyes but it won’t happen after board U-turn

The West Ham United owners have seemingly made a 180 about turn regarding their stance on David Moyes.

West Ham manager David Moyes finds himself under really pressure after Sunday’s 5-0 defeat to Fulham, and it was suggested in the immediate aftermath of that defeat that the Scot could have just two games to save his job.

The Hammers are currently sitting comfortably in ninth position in the Premier League table, and we will be through to the last 16 of the Europa League if we do no worse than draw with Freiburg on Thursday night.

So for those outside looking in, including the likes of talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan, it seems like we’ve had a decent 2023/24 campaign so far.

However, those involved with the club are very aware that Moyes seems to have hit his ceiling. The brand of football deployed by the Scot is turgid, far too pedestrian and reactive, rather than proactive.

I truly believe that the 60-year-old cannot take West Ham any further, and as a result the board should thank him for what he’s done for us and part ways with him….Leicester sacked Claudio Ranieri just six months after he won them the Premier League title after all!

West Ham owners should make David Moyes call

In January, there will be a two-week winter break for the Hammers from the 7th-21st. In my opinion, that would be the ideal time for the Hammers to make a change in the managerial department.

However, that won’t be happening any time soon according to Sean Whetstone.

If the West Ham owners wanted to make a managerial change by bringing in a new manager to replace Moyes, that two-week period in January would be the ideal time to do it.

The hectic festive period would be over and the new boss would have time to assess his options during numerous training sessions.

The January transfer window would be open as well of course, allowing the new man the chance to make one or two additions if he deemed it necessary to do so.

Instead, it seems like we will all have to wait until the summer for any change. In all fairness, we won’t get relegated this season, so maybe it’s the right thing to do to wait until the end of the season.

Still, I can’t help but feel that the West Ham owners would be missing a trick by not sacking Moyes in January, if the results and performances over the Christmas period are uninspiring of course.
