West Ham are on the brink of 1 million fans for Arsenal as astonishing attendance figures show the Hammers are the second biggest in the country.

It’s the ‘big six‘ and then West Ham when it comes to English football’s financial powerhouses as reported by Hammers News earlier this season.

But when it comes to support, only Manchester United can top West Ham in the UK.

The Hammers welcome Arsenal to the London Stadium on Sunday in what is a huge game for very different reasons.

The Gunners are chasing a shock Premier League title while West Ham – perhaps just as surprisingly – are battling against relegation.

We already know West Ham boast the second biggest average attendance in the country behind Man United and the fifth best across the entire planet (whufc.com).

Now West Ham stand on the brink of 1 million fans for Arsenal as astonishing attendance figures show Hammers are the second biggest in country.

Sporting News FC posted attendance figures after Man United reached the 1 million mark for spectators in the Premier League this season recently.

And – after last week’s game against Newcastle – West Ham are sat in second place with just under 937,000 fans through the door in the Premier League this season.

That is some 34,000 more than West Ham’s weekend opponents Arsenal – who sit in third place.

And the game against the Gunners – which will be another full house – will bring West Ham’s total to 999,500 – just 500 off the 1 million mark.

That milestone will be surpassed at West Ham’s next home game against Liverpool on April 26th.

Say what you want about West Ham. We may have a pretty bare trophy cabinet and are comfortably the biggest club in the country to have never won a top division league title.

But one thing many clubs can’t compete with is our support.

Imaginee other clubs of West Ham’s size and stature going 43 years without a major trophy. Their stadiums would be half empty.

Yet the West Ham faithful sell out home and away and over land and sea to do the club proud.

Let’s hope that loyal support is rewarded with silverware in the very near future.
