West Ham United lead the race to sign a truly top class central midfielder in the January transfer window.
The January transfer window is expected to be a busy one for West Ham manager David Moyes, with the Scot thought to be chasing new signings.
One area where the Hammers boss needs to strengthen, although perhaps not a top priority, is central midfield, with little cover at his disposal for Edson Alvarez or James Ward-Prowse.
And with that in mind, Moyes seems set to raid PSV Eindhoven for Joey Veerman in January.
In fact, it’s claimed by Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink that West Ham are leading the charge for the 25-year-old’s signature, alongside Brighton, when speaking on the latest Done Deal podcast:
“He is also becoming increasingly noticeable because of his defensive statistics. That makes him interesting for a number of English clubs. I understand that clubs such as West Ham United and Brighton are in the front row. I know that PSV are working on [a contract offer] and that things are not going so smoothly. That is just an ongoing process. It’s a bit of a paper discussion (money), because everyone knows that Veerman wants to make a move next summer. That’s fine and also part of the phase of his career. He is one of the very best football players in the Eredivisie. He can make it a little easier for by taking that step of not renewing.”

I would absolutely love the Netherlands international to move to the London Stadium in the January transfer window.
The 25-year-old possesses absolutely everything needed to succeed with the Hammers in the Premier League.
He has bagged five goals and 12 assists in 27 games for PSV so far this season – a really impressive tally for an orthodox central midfielder (Transfermarkt).
Standing at 6ft 1in tall, Veerman also has the physical attributes required to succeed in the Premier League.
The PSV star possesses exceptional technical ability and is always looking to make things happen, with an average of 4.5 key passes per game. However, he’s not afraid to get stuck in either. He has made 2.5 tackles on average per match in the Eredivisie so far this term (Who Scored).
If West Ham do in fact lead race to sign Veerman in January, then I really hope Moyes and the negotiating team get the job done. He’d be a fantastic player for us.
