West Ham contract rebel Divin Mubama has been speaking to the ninth best striker in Premier League history about his career.

Reports have abound that Divin Mubama is refusing to sign a new deal at West Ham due to concerns over a lack of opportunity under David Moyes.

We reported recently that West Ham owner David Sullivan has tried to intervene in the Mubama situation by looking to hold one-to-one talks with the striker. But his agent has refused.

A club insider has since claimed West Ham are now ‘confident’ of persuading Mubama to stay.

With injuries to Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen, the academy graduate has played 90 minutes in the last two games with mixed results.

West Ham’s contract rebel

Mubama recently told Moyes what he brings to the West Ham team that Antonio and Danny Ings don’t.

And when he played a big part in the equaliser at Burnley last weekend, his celebration was to point to his wrist signalling ‘It’s time’.

He’s certainly not short of confidence.

And perhaps now we know where he is getting it from.

Hammers fans arguably have not seen that kind of self-belief in a homegrown striker since a certain Jermain Defoe burst onto the scene.

Mubama speaks to Defoe – let’s hope it’s just about goals

Well West Ham contract rebel Mubama has been speaking to the ninth best striker in Premier League history about his career.

According to Carlton Cole, Mubama regularly rings him and former Hammer Defoe – who is the Prem’s ninth all-time top scorer with 162 goals.

West Ham fans will be hoping the calls are just about scoring goals rather than career advice after the way Defoe handled his exit from the club.

Although in fairness that is something he regrets and has apologised profusely for in the not-too-distant past.

‘I just want to see him do really well’

“He’s one of those thinkers and he just always wants to do his best and prove everybody wrong – or right whoever believes in him,” Cole told TNT Sports.

“He’s a great lad to work with and I’m so glad he’s going to be getting his chances now.

“He has (got a brilliant mentality) and it’s not just me he calls up, it’s Jermain Defoe as well. I don’t know why he’s calling me up if he’s calling Jermain Defoe to be honest!

“But I do answer, he’s a great kid man and I just want to see him do really well in his career and hopefully this is the start of great things to come.”
