Carlton Cole has sent a warning to the ‘Moyes out’ brigade at West Ham after watching the Hammers make history.

David Moyes is about to enter the last six months of his West Ham contract.

And his future is the source of much debate among Hammers fans.

There is a big divide among them with some feeling he deserves a new long-term deal having worked wonders at the club since his return to the club nearly four years ago.

Others – labelled the ‘Moyes out brigade’ – feel West Ham have reached a ceiling under the Scot. And for that faction of the fanbase the answer is to hire a more modern, progressive manager in the mould of a Roberto De Zerbi.

Tim Steidten’s success heading up West Ham’s recruitment may have helped Moyes on the pitch. But it has also served to somewhat undermine him too.

There have been reports that the German technical director is identifying Moyes’ potential replacement.

Hammers News has been told by the top source inside the club that fresh talk questioning Moyes’ future is ‘rubbish’.

And no decision has been – or will be – made until the new year at the earliest.

West Ham will soon be at a crossroads over Moyes and his future.

Now one former player has urged those who want the Hammers and the manager to go their separate ways in the summer to think carefully about what they want.

‘Careful what you wish for’

Carlton Cole has sent a warning to the ‘Moyes out’ brigade at West Ham after the Hammers make history.

West Ham qualified for European knockout football for the third consecutive season for the first time in the club’s history with the win over Backa Topola on Thursday night.

And in doing so they set themselves apart with the mighty Real Madrid as the club with the most European wins – 22 – in the last three seasons.

Cole told TNT Sports those West Ham fans the ‘Moyes out’ camp need to be careful what they wish for.

‘Yes we want progression, but…’

“Listen he’s (Moyes) been a revelation,” Cole said.

“Remember when he joined West Ham were fighting a relegation scrap. He’s come in, done his job, steadied the ship then he’s got West Ham European football (three years in a row).

“Now that’s never happened. People have got to understand what he has done for the club. He’s turned the fortunes of the club around… He’s been one of our best managers of – at least – the last two decades.

“Because of what he has brought to the club and the stability and now the expectations of the club as well has gone from just surviving in the Premier League to looking up and thinking ‘do you know what, we need to get into Europe – every year’. And you can’t buy that.

“I remember playing for Charlton on loan from Chelsea and I remember Alan Curbishley always got his teams to 10th position. And I remember it got so boring for the fans they wanted to see a change. Sometimes you’ve got to be careful what you wish for.

“Yes we want to see progression. But at the same time you want it to be a steady progression.”
