West Ham catapulted into the so-called “Big Six” if new reports about Chelsea and champions Man City are true.
West Ham have challenged and broken into the Premier League’s top six in recent seasons.
But becoming part of the “Big Six” seems to be a closed shop.
And it’s no easy task with the established elite such as Manchester City and Chelsea a tough and very rich nut to crack.
The term “the Big Six” was created and perpetuated by the sycophantic Sky Sports. And the likes of Chelsea and Man City believed their own hype when they thought they were too good for the Premier League when they infamously signed up to plans for a breakaway European Super League.
Breaking into the establishment has seemed an impossibility for the likes of the Hammers.

West Ham catapulted into so-called “Big Six”?
But West Ham could be catapulted into the so-called “Big Six” if new reports about Chelsea and champions Man City are true.
Because it seems West Ham might get a leg-up.
Everton have been plunged into the Premier League relegation zone after a 10-point deduction for breaking financial rules.
And the likes of The Daily Mail claim Man City and Chelsea could face relegation from the top flight if they are found guilty of breaking FFP rules.
“Manchester City and Chelsea run the risk of relegation from the Premier League after Everton’s 10-point deduction set a powerful precedent, according to a former financial advisor to the champions,” the report states.

New reports claim Chelsea and Man City face relegation
“City face 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial rules and Chelsea could face scrutiny over alleged payments connected to former owner Roman Abramovich.”
As unlikely as that scenario may seem – it could have a huge knock-on effect for West Ham.
Because it would take out two of the so-called “Big Six”. With the fifth highest attendance in world football, their position in London, a huge fanbase and the fact they are among the 15th most lucrative clubs on the planet, West Ham would be elevated into that so-called elite group.
On the pitch the demotion of Chelsea and Man City would also open up the possibility of West Ham qualifying for the Champions League.

Hammers elevated into elite by default but for how long?
Especially given that fifth placed finishes are likely to be rewarded with a Champions League spot most seasons from here on in.
Newcastle would be the other club to benefit with their new found wealth, status and performances on the pitch elevating them into the void alongside West Ham should the reports prove true.
Any resolution on the cases involving Man City and Chelsea could still be a way off, though.
So for now the Hammers will just have to be content with remaining part of the “Other 14” off the pitch.
But fans will be hoping West Ham, who sit ninth a third of the way through the season, can make a charge for the top six on it.
