West Ham boss David Moyes needs to completely change Thilo Kehrer position

West Ham star Thilo Kehrer should be switched into a central midfielder by David Moyes, in order to get the best out of him.

After moving to the London Stadium from Paris Saint-Germain for around £10 million in the summer, the 26-year-old was one of the Hammers’ best players during the first month or so of the season.

However, it must be said that Kehrer has looked shaky in recent games.

The 22-capped Germany international is incredibly rash at times and he seems to completely switch off densely every now and again as well.

A prime example of that was how he allowed Marcus Rashford to beat him at the back post on Sunday, without even challenging him.

Kehrer is undoubtedly better when playing at right-back than he is at centre-back. I think Moyes could go one further though and move the 26-year-old into a different position yet again…

The West Ham fans absolutely love Kehrer.

He is a top quality player and he gives absolutely everything every single time he steps on the pitch as well. And that is what makes him so popular at the London Stadium.

However, the harsh reality of the matter is that his rashness in the tackle and lapses in concentration will end up costing the Hammers on a regular basis.

The Premier League is extremely unforgiving.

And for that reason, I believe that Kehrer would actually be better suited playing as a defensive midfielder.

The German could play at the base of midfield, allowing Declan Rice and Lucas Paqueta to operate freely in front of him.

The only problem with this is that we would become very weak at right-back, and Moyes would have to sign an elite player to come into that particular position in January.

The former PSG ace has all of the attributes needed to succeed as a defensive midfielder in the Premier League, and he has played there numerous times before during his time in the French capital.

Kehrer has energy and stamina in abundance and his array of passing really is something to behold.

He is tenacious in the tackle and has great mobility. In other words he’s perfectly suited to the defensive midfield role. Having him at the base of our midfield would massively improve our ability to retain possession as well, with Rice and Paqueta in front of him.

If Moyes moves Kehrer from right-back into central midfield, West Ham will undoubtedly improve as a team. And for that reason, it should be a no-brainer for the Scot.
