West Ham boss David Moyes has been totally vindicated with Emerson Palmieri decision

Emerson Palmieri is starting to look like the real deal for West Ham United after a shaky start to his London Stadium career.

David Moyes brought the 28-year-old to West Ham from Chelsea in the summer transfer window for around £13 million (Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth).

Emerson seemed to be well off the pace in the Premier League during the first couple of months after swapping west London for east of the capital.

However, I wrote a piece right here on Hammers News a few weeks ago highlighting just how much he has improved.

And now the Italy international has taken his form to an even higher level…

Emerson Palmieri has been superb for West Ham

The 28-year-old Hammers left-back is on another planet to Aaron Cresswell, both defensively and going forward.

Emerson put in yet another brilliant performance for West Ham against Aston Villa yesterday.

The Italian had 63 touches, made five successful tackles, one interception, three clearances and two blocks. He made one key pass, won two aerial duels, and registered an 86.5% completion rate from 37 attempted passes (Who Scored).

Those really are some very impressive statistics indeed.

The Italy international has so much more pace than Cresswell, and he offers us much more defensive solidarity and potency going forward as well.

Emerson defended really well against Aston Villa at the London Stadium yesterday and kept Leon Bailey and Bertrand Traore quiet all game.

The 28-year-old has shown real athleticism in recent weeks, and looks like a completely different player to the one who struggled during the first few months of his time with West Ham.

The only annoying thing is that he is 28 and not 24!

Still, let’s hope that Emerson Palmieri can be a big player for West Ham over the next three or four years. If the Hammers are to remain in the Premier League this season, we need the Italian to be on top form between now and the end of May, that’s for sure.

These are really testing times for the Hammers as a club. It’s clear that David Moyes will be manager until the end of the season now, so we all have to stick together and form a siege mentality.

The form of Emerson has been mightily impressive. If he continues that, there is every chance that we will move away from the relegation zone and on into mid-table safety.
