David Moyes has just made a slightly concerning claim about West Ham United striker Gianluca Scamacca.

West Ham signed the 24-year-old forward from Sassuolo in the summer transfer window for around £35 million (Sky Sports).

Hammers boss Moyes certainly hasn’t helped with the way in which he sets up his team. At the same time though, Scamacca must do more.

the Italy international has already been heavily linked with a move away from West Ham. I really rate Scamacca and hope that he doesn’t leave.

That said, his fitness and injury problems this season have been a real concern…

Scamacca hasn’t started a game for West Ham since January 4th.

He has been back involved with training for quite some time now, but Moyes seems to be reluctant to give him minutes.

And the Scot suggested that the 24-year-old striker still isn’t quite ready, when asked by the Evening Standard about his forward options:

“I think first of all, individual form would be the key – I need people to train well and look good so we can give them that opportunity. I’m hoping that all three can do it. Gianluca’s still behind it a bit.”

The fact that Scamacca is supposedly still not ready after being back involved with training for at least a month now is a big concern.

The Italian looked well off the pace during his cameo appearance against AEK Larnaca on Thursday night. And it’s clear by Moyes’s comments that Gianluca Scamacca won’t be starting for West Ham against Aston Villa today.

I’m still holding out hope that the Italian will come good for the Hammers. I would venture to suggest that we won’t see that with Moyes still at the club though, unfortunately.
