West Ham United board source Sean Whetstone has been told of an approach for Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick.
When David Moyes found himself under intense pressure last season, West Ham were heavily linked with Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick as a potential replacement.
Hammers academy graduate Carrick was impressing with Middlesbrough at the time, leading a charge for promotion from the Championship.
And he was said to be one of two young managers on West Ham’s radar.
Moyes has found himself under scrutiny this season over West Ham’s style of play and his approach to games.

West Ham board source told Carrick claim
Last month journalist Dean Jones told Give Me Sport that the Hammers board will take a different route when appointing Moyes’ successor and that Carrick is under serious consideration.
The 5-0 drubbing at Fulham has put the spotlight back on Moyes’ future beyond next summer with the Scot’s contract up at the end of the season.
Now West Ham board source Sean Whetstone has been told of an approach for Middlesbrough boss Carrick.
Whetstone, who counts majority owner David Sullivan among his contacts at the club, was hosting the latest episode of Moore Than Just A Podcast when the claim was made.

‘Boro boss sounded out should Moyes depart’
He was told that Carrick – currently 12th in the 24-team second division of English football with Middlesbrough – has been approached via an intermediary about whether he would be interested in the West Ham job next summer should Moyes depart.
On the podcast, Whetstone is told that a mystery former EFL manager has let it be known that the Hammers have sounded Carrick out should they decide not to renew Moyes’ contract.
“In the latest episode of MooreTJAPodcast we reveal that former Hammer Michael Carrick has been approached by an intermediary to find out if he would be interested in the West Ham manager role if available next summer,” Whetstone said on X.
It’s all part of the Carrick deal
There is no detail as to whether Carrick has intimated he would be interested in returning to West Ham.
The former top class midfielder came through the ranks alongside the likes of Joe Cole in West Ham’s famous 1999 FA Youth Cup winning side before moving on to Spurs and then Manchester United.
Carrick had ‘Boro playing some excellent football last season. But they ran out of steam and were forced to sell key players in the summer.
This term they are slap bang in mid-table and have lost three of their last four. But Carrick’s side are just three points off a play-off spot.
