Angelo Ogbonna was an absolute rock for West Ham against Manchester City at the Etihad tonight.

David Moyes fielded a weakened West Ham team tonight against Manchester City with the likes of Declan Rice and Nayef Aguerd missing out and Angelo Ogbonna coming into the side to replace the injured Kurt Zouma.

The 34-year-old has been a great servant for the Hammers over the past eight years and recently admitted that he would like to see out his playing days at the London Stadium.

Signed for just £8 million from Juventus in 2015 (Daily Mail), Ogbonna has gone on to make 227 appearances in all competitions for West Ham.

That now looks like an absolute bargain. And he showed once again tonight just how important he is to the Hammers…

The experienced Italian was an absolute rock at the heart of the Hammers’ defence against one of the most formidable forward lines in the world.

Ogbonna made eight clearances, two interceptions, one block and won four aerial duels (Who Scored).

West Ham seem to be so much more solid defensively with Ogbonna marshalling proceedings at the back.

The only real mistake that Ogbonna made was dropping too deep for Manchester City’s opener, and playing Nathan Ake onside as a result.

Aside from that though, he was pretty much faultless. It’s just a shame that he’s not 10 years younger!

Playing Manchester City away is always a tough task for any club in the world. We certainly didn’t disgrace ourselves tonight.

And Angelo Ogbonna was the standout performer for West Ham this evening as far as I’m concerned.
