West Ham United centre-back Angelo Ogbonna has reportedly made a big decision on his future with the Hammers.

Ogbonna, who earns around £68k-a-week at the London Stadium (Salary Sport), joined West Ham from Juventus in the summer of 2015 for around £8 million (Daily Mail).

The 34-year-old is a key member of the Hammers squad, and David Moyes undoubtedly looks at the Italian as one of the core group of leaders at the club.

However, Oggy is out of contract with West Ham in the summer, and a recent report suggested that he could be on his way out of the London Stadium after spending eight years with the Hammers.

Losing such a big leader, having recently lost Mark Noble, would be a big blow for the Hammers. So it is surely in our best interest to extend his current contract by at least another year with a view to him joining the coaching staff after that.

It seems as though at least part of that could be set to happen…

Angelo Ogbonna makes West Ham decision

According to a report from The Athletic, the 34-year-old defender wants to end his playing career with the Hammers.

As things stand, talks have not yet begun regarding extending his current deal with the club – one that expires in just a few month’s time.

I think that it will be absolutely vital for Moyes to get the former Juventus man signed up for at least one more season.

Ogbonna’s fine form since the turn of the year has somewhat gone under the radar because of the exceptional Nayef Aguerd.

And that’s fine – the Italian has never been one for frills. He is a no-nonsense centre-back, a great organiser and a true leader.

When he’s fit and on his very best form, he makes such a huge difference to the Hammers and the way in which we defend. In the five games that Oggy has played since the turn of the year, Moyes’s side have conceded just two goals.

The Italian clearly has plenty of football left in him at the very highest level. And West Ham should offer Angelo Ogbonna a one-year contract extension at the very least in my opinion.

The 34-year-old seemingly wants to see out his playing days at the London Stadium. So this should be a really easy one to get done.
