West Ham have secured ourselves one of the best deals of the Premier League era by signing Nayef Aguerd from Rennes in the summer.

The Hammers paid just £25 million to bring Aguerd, 26, to the London Stadium in the summer transfer window (The Express).

Unfortunately for the Morocco international, he suffered a serious ankle injury during a pre-season game against Rangers back in July.

That seriously hindered his hopes of making an instant impression at West Ham.

Aguerd returned to action for the Hammers just before the World Cup though and despite more injury fears out in Qatar, he came back into the West Ham team at there start of the year away at Leeds.

The Moroccan has instantly proven what an unbelievable asset he can be to David Moyes. And in my opinion, he has been one of our very best signings over the past 30 years…

Nayef Aguerd – the best West Ham signing for 30 years

Dimitri Payet for £10.5 million in 2015 was stunning business, and that deal has to be right up there. Michail Antonio for £7 million and Craig Dawson for £3 million have to be very good shouts for the best West Ham signings in the Premier League era as well.

Paolo Di Canio, Paul Kitson and John Hartson all take some beating as well.

However, I firmly believe that spending £25 million on Aguerd is the best piece of business we have EVER done.

The 26-year-old is an absolute Rolls Royce of a centre-back. He’s strong in the air, incredibly quick along the ground and is a real leader at the back for the Hammers.

Nayef Aguerd should be the West Ham captain when Declan Rice eventually leaves the club, there is no doubt in my mind about that.

The former Rennes ace has demonstrated on numerous occasions already in a West Ham shirt how to perfect the slide tackle.

Aguerd has been an absolute monster for us since the turn of the year, and had he been fit all season long, we definitely wouldn’t be where we currently are in the Premier League table, in my opinion anyway.

£25 million in this day and age for a top quality player like the Morocco international is absolute peanuts.

West Ham have struck gold by signing Nayef Aguerd from Rennes. And I think he will prove to be the best ever value for money signing that we have made in the Premier League era.
