‘We’ll determine their availability’ McKinlay provides Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen update

West Ham United assistant coach Billy McKinlay has provided an injury update on Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen.

Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen are currently out after suffering injuries during the West Ham United vs Bristol City FA Cup clash last weekend, and Billy McKinlay fielded questions about the duo in his press conference today.

In addition to those absentees, Hammers boss David Moyes is also currently without Mohammed Kudus who is away at AFCON with Ghana.

Moyes is believed to be scouring the globe for a new forward, but it must be said that this winter break has come at just the right time for us. It has given us a vital breather with our squad incredibly stretched.

Bowen and Paqueta will hopefully only miss just one Premier League game – away at Sheffield United on Sunday.

Is there any chance that either of them could actually be available for the clash with the Blades this weekend though?

Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen updates provided

McKinlay filled in for Moyes for the pre-match press conference today, ahead of our clash with Bristol City tomorrow.

And the Scot responded when asked to provide an update on injured duo Paqueta and Bowen, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“The game tomorrow, Lucas Paqueta is not available and the same for Jarrod Bowen. They got injuries in the last game and we’ll determine their availability for future games after tomorrow. We’re short a couple of players so we’ll have to make some changes.”

That sounds like really good news to me. The fact that McKinlay even suggested that both players will be assessed before the Sheffield United game is evidence that neither of them are that far away.

We need the Brazilian and the Englishman back as soon as possible, especially considering the fact that we’ll be without Kudus for a while.

West Ham are well in the hunt for a top six finish in the Premier League table this season, and we are capable of achieving success in the Europa League as well.

In order to do both of those things though, we need Hammers duo Lucas Paqueta and Jarrod Bowen back and firing on all cylinders immediately.
