West Ham star Said Benrahma clashed with Algeria manager Djamel Belmadi after he was substituted during the 1-1 draw with Egypt last night.

Said Benrahma started the game for Algeria out in Egypt, but Belmadi hauled him off after 63 minutes and replaced him with Roma star Houssem Aouar.

It was an all too familiar story for the 28-year-old West Ham winger. He has fallen down the pecking order under Hammers boss David Moyes this season.

Benrahma has had a rubbish time whilst away on international duty as well. First, he was criticised by his teammate Islam Slimani for trying to take a penalty during Algeria’s 5-1 win over Cape Verde.

He was told very firmly that if Riyad Mahrez is not on the pitch, the penalties are taken by Slimani – end of story.

And now, the former Brentford attacker’s manager has let him have it as well…

Benrahma was handed his 23rd cap for his country against Egypt at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.

The Hammers ace was ineffective in all fairness before Djamel Belmadi decided to bring him off – nothing wrong with that decision of course.

However, what wasn’t called for in the slightest was the way that Belmadi man-handled the West Ham forward when he left the pitch:

Djamel Belmadi crossed the line

There was absolutely no need for that from the Algeria manager. The only way that he can make it right is by saying it was a heat of the moment thing, and by completely and entirely taking responsibility for his actions.

Benrahma has incurred the wrath of David Moyes before, with some crossed words after he was substituted.

However, the clash between Said Benrahma and the Algeria manager was something I’ve not seen before.

Belmadi was completely wrong to react how he did, and I’m sure he regrets it this morning. Things really aren’t going well for Benrahma right now are they! Let’s hope that his luck changes when he returns to the London Stadium.
