German striker Niclas Fullkrug emerged as a prime transfer target for West Ham United earlier this week.
West Ham were believed to be closing in on a deal to sign Niclas Fullkrug, but personal terms and the structure of the fee are still yet to be agreed upon.
Julen Lopetegui is clearly desperate to sign a new striker, and moved on to the Germany international after a deal to sign Jhon Duran failed to progress.
It was suggested that the Borussia Dortmund hitman was en route to London via a private jet yesterday, but that obviously failed to happen in the end.
And then it was then claimed this morning that the Hammers could be back in for the Colombian, after Dortmund refused to budge on their demands for Fullkrug.
So what is the current state of play regarding our interest in the German?
Update on Niclas Fullkrug to West Ham deal
A deal for Fullkrug is still not done, but it seems like the Hammers are desperately trying to change that.
One thing’s for sure, Lopetegui is desperate not to exit the summer window without signing a top-class centre-forward.
Hammers insider Sean Whetstone has claimed that advanced talks will be continued today between West Ham and Dortmund.
Whetstone also said he’s been told that ‘if a deal can be concluded by both parties, he will fly into Biggin Hill tomorrow by private jet’.
Sure, he’s 31, and it’s a big shame that he’s not four or five years younger, but for the next two seasons, he should be able to do a very good job for us.
He was in fine form for Borussia Dortmund last summer, and racked up 15 goals and 10 assists in 43 appearances in all competitions.
The German’s ability to hold up the ball is clearly what Lopetegui wants, and he will be able to bring all of our other talented attackers into the game.
Whether West Ham sign Niclas Fullkrug or not remains to be seen, but it’s clear that the powers that be at the London Stadium are trying their very best to make it happen.
