David Moyes has been heavily criticised after West Ham threw away a two-goal lead to lose 4-3 at Newcastle.

West Ham led 3-1 with just over 15 minutes left before their pathetic collapse handed all three points to a seriously patched up Newcastle side.

It was a bitter blow for the Hammers in the race for a European spot.

Many fans as well as pundits and journalists have criticised David Moyes for the negative substitution of bringing Michail Antonio off for Kalvin Phillips which sent West Ham into a downward spiral.

Indeed the Scot has held his hands up to admit that change simply did not work.

Moyes’ meek surrender: But what do the stats say?

There is a feeling among supporters that the team are throwing away points from winning positions far too often. Many bemoaned it was the ‘same old West Ham’.

With Moyes’ future uncertain it has also been used as ‘proof’ they must part ways in the summer.

But are those assertions justified by the statistics?

One West Ham fan has spent time analysing the club’s results under the manager.

And the truth behind Moyes West Ham surrender claims will leave some fans in shock.

West Ham fan’s deep dive turns up surprising results

A West Ham supporting TikToker did a deep dive on the results after seeing so many comments online stating that ‘this kind of thing happens all the time’ under Moyes.

The findings will seriously surprise most West Ham fans. And they are very much stacked in the manager’s favour.

According to the stats, West Ham have been ahead by two or more goals in 84 games under Moyes.

And the Hammers have failed to go on and win just FOUR of those 84 games.

How many times have West Ham lost in those 84 games when leading by two or more goals? Once – against Newcastle on Saturday.

Newcastle very much a first for Hammers under Moyes

Yes that was the first time that a West Ham side under Moyes has been two or more goals up in a game and ended up losing.

The other games where West Ham have been ahead by two goals and have failed to win were a 2-2 draw against Man City, a 3-3 draw vs Arsenal when 3-0 up and a 3-3 draw with Brighton when we had been 3-1 ahead.

It is only fair to balance out the general perception against the true facts and figures.

We’re all hurting from the weekend.

But this gives some much needed perspective. Well done to Alex for taking the time to do it – and saving us having to pore over the figures.
