‘Too scared’: Journalist’s depressing David Moyes update will anger West Ham fans

David Moyes is treading on really thin ice in his role as West Ham United manager after what has been a disastrous season so far.

West Ham have been absolutely terrible in the Premier League this season, and we are currently sitting in 16th spot in the table just one point clear of the relegation zone.

It could be argued that Moyes is only still in the job at the London Stadium because of the Hammers‘ fine form in Europe this season.

The board are clearly prepared to back Moyes to the hilt, but the players are apparently not happy with the tactics that he has been deploying.

It’s usually a slippery slope from there. However, it seems as though Moyes is set to stay in East London regardless…

It appears as though the Scot is currently safe in his role as Hammers boss by default.

That’s because there are apparently not any managers good enough to come in and improve on the Scot!

That’s according to Dean Jones who told Give Me Sport:

“My information at the moment is that the board do not have that manager in mind that either has a high enough profile or is enough of a guarantee of success that they’re going to do a better job than David Moyes that they can pull the trigger and go for it.They just don’t feel confident enough about that at all, and until that moment comes, they’re too scared to get rid of Moyes.”

I mean, what a load of rubbish. Imagine if Brighton had thought the same when Graham Potter left?

There are five top-class managers currently out of work who West Ham could go for, if we had the ambition – Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, Marcelo Gallardo, Marcelo Bielsa and Lucien Favre.

The Hammers owners could also take a punt on Will Still or Michael Carrick. Even Rafa Benitez would be a better option than Moyes right now.

The narrative being forced on us by the club that there aren’t any better options out there is just utter rubbish. I would suggest that the real reason why David Moyes hasn’t already been sacked is because the West Ham owners don’t want to pay out the remainder of his contract, and are hoping that we avoid relegation by the skin of out teeth.

With that kind of attitude, we will never kick on and make genuine progress under the current ownership, and that’s a really depressing thought considering the potential of this great club.
