West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek put in one of his best performances of the season during our win over Brentford on Monday night.
Tomas Soucek hasn’t been at his best at all for West Ham over the past couple of months. Although he has managed to bag eight goals this season, he hasn’t scored since the end of December.
The 29-year-old Czech Republic international was actually heavily linked with an exit from the Hammers in the January transfer window.
However, he remained at the London Stadium in the end, and after being dropped for our game against Nottingham Forest two weeks ago, he returned to the starting XI on Monday for our clash with Brentford.
Soucek reminded everyone just how important he can be to this team, and David Moyes would have been delighted with the performance that the former Slavia Prague midfielder put in.
It seems as though his teammates were very impressed with his display as well…

Tomas Soucek on what West Ham teammates told him after Brentford win
Big Tom was vital defensively for us against Brentford. He racked up two tackles, two interceptions, eight clearances, two blocks and six successful aerial duels (Who Scored).
On another day, he would have scored a couple of goals as well. Soucek shared what his teammates told him after the match, as quoted by WHUFC.com:
“I felt very good [on Monday]. I told myself we need to win and will do everything to get the three points, and from minute one I felt super good. I just hope I can have a similar performance for the next game because it gave me confidence. It’s great when you go into the changing room after the game, and everyone tells you you were superb.”
The challenge for Soucek now will be to maintain those levels between now and the end of the season.
We all know the Czech Republic international’s limitations but sometimes we forget what he’s good at. Don’t we always say that all we expect from our players is maximum effort? Well you can’t ever criticise the 29-year-old for giving anything less than 100%.
Tomas Soucek clearly still has a key role to play for West Ham this season, and if he continues to perform like he did on Monday, we’ll be in a very strong place in the league come the end of the season I reckon.
