The one simple stat that should convince West Ham owners to sack David Moyes

The West Ham United owners should sack David Moyes now after one statistic emerged showing us in an awful light as a team.

West Ham United boss David Moyes is walking on really thin ice right now, the board are said to be extremely unhappy with him following the defeat to Nottingham Forest, and the likes of Gary O’Neill are being named as potential replacements for the Scot (GiveMeSport).

The Hammers are in absolute free fall right now, and we currently find ourselves in 10th spot in the Premier League table, having occupied sixth place earlier on in the campaign.

A defeat against Brentford tomorrow night would really crank the pressure up on Moyes, but it never should have been allowed to get this far in my opinion.

Despite some impressive results inside the first-half of the season, the football has been incredibly poor – a turgid brand of insufferable anti-football that belongs in a bygone era – and the writing has been on the wall for a long time now.

The way in which Moyes approaches games is hugely frustrating, especially when we play against the so-called ‘Big Six’ away from home, what with his dour and negative pre-game rhetoric.

Moyes has only ever won once away in his career at Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea!

And the other thing that really grinds my gears is the fact that Moyes prides himself on being such a defensive manager, yet his current team is so porous!

Opposing teams must absolutely love playing against us. They never get pressed and the route to our goal seems to have far less obstacles than it should do.

Now there is some real evidence to show just how poor we are defensively, and it makes for really grim reading…

West Ham owners now need to sack David Moyes

A ‘defence quality’ statistic has emerged, combining the amount of shots teams from Europe’s top five leagues allow inside their own penalty area and the amount of times they allow their opponents inside their box.

The results were staggering and highlight just how easy we are to play against…

I mean, look at the teams that are in and around us! Sheffield United, Burnley and Luton – all teams down the bottom of the Premier League table battling relegation.

That is abysmal, and if the owners see those numbers, they absolutely should part ways with Moyes immediately.

Listen, we’re not little old West Ham anymore – Moyes has spent some serious money in his role as Hammers manager, and he has the players needed to be fighting for a top six place.

Now that the good results have dried up, the flaws with Moyes’s system is obvious to see. We are so passive, and allow the opposition to come on to us, yet we don’t have the pace, confidence or guile needed to hit teams on the counter.

We are so easy to play against. West Ham have conceded 44 goals in 25 Premier League games this season – only six teams have let in more, and we’ve scored just 36 – only eight teams have bagged less!

David Moyes has mastered neither the defensive nor the offensive side of the game in charge of West Ham this season, and the board absolutely should make the decision to sack him now.

The Scot has hit his ceiling as Hammers boss, and we need to appoint a new younger, hungrier and more tactically astute manager to come into the club, if we are to make any kind of genuine progress to the next level.
