David Moyes has played down the excitement surrounding the return to action of West Ham United ace Maxwel Cornet last night.

West Ham beat AEK Larnaca 2-0 in the UEFA Europa Conference League out in Cyprus last night, and it was very much a case of a professional job well done.

The performance wasn’t great, but the Hammers players got the job done, and that’s all that matters at this stage of European competition.

West Ham will surely progress through to the quarter-finals next week, with the return leg at the London Stadium presenting us with another good opportunity to build some much-needed momentum.

There was some really good news for the club last night, with Cornet getting 15 minutes of action at the end of the game.

However, it seems as though Cornet is not quite ready…

David Moyes addressed the media last night after our win over AEK Larnaca.

And Moyes responded when asked how happy he was to have Cornet back involved, as quoted by Football.London:

“I’m not quite sure he’s ready yet, to be honest. I felt we could give him 10, 15 minutes at the end and we did do.”

We need Cornet to play a big part for us now. With a clash with Aston Villa to come on Sunday, having the Ivorian as an option to use from the bench would be a huge bonus.

Judging by Moyes’s comments though, it seems unlikely that that will happen.

Maxwel Cornet will be vital for West Ham between now and the end of the season, so I guess that not rushing him back for Sunday’s game will be the prudent play.

However, that will not soften the blow for the Hammers, if he is indeed unavailable for selection against Villa.
