‘This is on you not David Moyes’ Jamie Redknapp tells West Ham players after the damaging Newcastle thumping.

The blame game has been in full swing at West Ham in recent weeks with most of it being laid at the door of David Moyes.

The beleaguered Scot has a big target on his back right now as the Hammers try to navigate their way out of the Premier League’s relegation zone.

So a 5-1 thumping at home to Newcastle only serves to pile the pressure on.

It comes against the backdrop of an unconvincing win over Southampton at the weekend and claims of discontent within the dressing room.

Last week a list of shocking claims emerged from an alleged first team whistleblower at West Ham stating the players and staff have had enough of Moyes.

Reports of unrest within the West Ham dressing room were also made recently by Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg.

Moyes should be held accountable for this dismal, wretched Premier League season.

But the manager can certainly not be blamed for some of the shocking performances and individual errors on display against Newcastle.

And one pundit has made that point very clear.

‘This is on you not Moyes’ Jamie Redknapp tells West Ham players after damaging Newcastle thumping.

Redknapp, who grew up following the Hammers – the club his dad Harry played for 149 times and managed – admits the result puts Moyes under pressure.

But he said the players must take the blame for the shocking scenes at the London Stadium and need to look at themselves in the mirror.

Redknapp also told the players what West Ham fans expect to see from them.

“It will be one of the best squads ever to go down if it does,” Redknapp said on Sky Sports.

“David Moyes right now is under pressure, make no mistake, he knows that, he said it himself – that’s the price on the ticket when you’re a manager at any level.

“But I actually look at the players right now and think they now have to show some character, take responsibility and get themselves out of this situation.

“I didn’t get the chance to play at this stadium (but) I played at the Boleyn, the fans are ferocious and they’re on you. When things turn, they let you know.

“So what you need right now is big characters who are going to want to receive the ball, going to want to take risks and play with a bit of confidence and belief, even when you’re under pressure.

“I think that squad is too good to go down… but when you’re under pressure strange things can happen…

“They shouldn’t be in this position, the players have to take responsibility.”

Redknapp is spot on – this one was on the players.

Let’s hope they are listening to every word.
