West Ham lost 5-1 to Newcastle on Wednesday night but Jarrod Bowen and his teammates bounced back with all three points against Fulham just three days later.

Let’s be real here, the performance wasn’t great at all – in fact it was a really poor one.
However, at this stage of the season all that matters is the result, and we certainly got a big one at Craven Cottage.
What was pleasing about the performance against Fulham was that every single player put in a real shift – something that couldn’t be said during our 5-1 defeat to Newcastle on Wednesday…

The Hammers needed to bounce back against the Cottagers at the weekend. Obviously a win was absolutely vital but the bare minimum was for each and every player to work their socks off for the team.
It was really nice to see a committed performance from the boys. There haven’t been many of them this season unfortunately.
And Bowen opened up to WHUFC.com about something he said in the dressing room after our defeat to Newcastle that might have inspired the team on to victory at Fulham:
“I said after the game on Wednesday it was embarrassing to concede five at home, so to go to Fulham and dig in to get a 1-0 result means everything. We got in faces a bit more, put a press on and discomforted them. We knew they had two great centre-halves who come out and want to play, so we tried to stop that. Towards the end we were hanging on a bit, but you expect that away from home when you’re up against a top team. A 1-0 win and three points is massive for everyone, the fans, the Club and hopefully it will help us moving forwards now. Especially on the back of Wednesday night it was important to be solid, be compact and give a proper, disciplined away performance.”
Embarrassing is right. It was a truly shocking performance against Newcastle – an abomination in fact.
Aside from the numerous unforgivable mistakes, the players simply didn’t put in 100%, and there is quite simply no excuse for that.
We have to give the players their due on Saturday, they certainly didn’t shirk responsibility and didn’t stop running for each other, the manager and the fans.
Jarrod Bowen was right to say that the West Ham players should have been embarrassed by their display against Newcastle last Wednesday. Hopefully we won’t see a performance of the like between now and the end of the season.
