Tammy Abraham could be West Ham bound as Julen Lopetegui eyes devastating partnership

West Ham United are well in the race to sign Roma centre-forward Tammy Abraham this summer it seems.

Tammy Abraham has been a target for West Ham for quite some time now – most recently just a few days ago.

It was suggested that Hammers head coach Julen Lopetegui even made an enquiry for him just 11 days ago.

The London-born centre-forward left Chelsea to join Roma back in the summer of 2021, after West Ham had been heavily linked with signing him.

Abraham is a top striker, and has bagged an impressive 130 goals in in 339 career appearances for club and country.

He proved that he has what it takes to succeed in the Premier League during his time with Chelsea, and bagged 15 goals during the 2019/20 season.

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, the 26-year-old could be a real problem in this West Ham team for our opponents.

So could Lopetegui really bring him back to the Premier League from Serie A in the summer transfer window?

According to a report from Il Romanista, West Ham are ready to bring Abraham back to London from the Italian capital this summer.

Lopetegui has been relentless with his summer transfer business so far this window, but he’s far from finished it seems.

So would Tammy be used as cover and competition for Fullkrug? Or could he play alongside the former Borussia Dortmund man?

What’s interesting here is a recent admission from Fullkrug. The German suggested that he actually likes to drop into the number 10 position.

That means that if Lopetegui does opt to play a 3-5-2 formation, he could utilise Abraham and Fullkrug as a pair up front.

The thought of the Englishman and the German playing alongside one another is a hugely exciting one, and they could form a devastating partnership.

However, Tammy’s injury record is undoubtedly concerning, and it still remains to be seen whether he has returned to anywhere near his best after suffering an ACL injury in 2023.

The English hitman has missed 301 days of football since that injury, so signing him obviously won’t come without any risk.

It will be up to the West Ham board to weigh up whether or not spending £25 million on Tammy Abraham is a risk worth taking.

I have a feeling that the former Chelsea man could be back in London very soon indeed.
