Rio Ferdinand has lifted the lid on a conversation he had with Arsenal ace Declan Rice after he left West Ham to move to the Emirates in the summer.

Declan Rice joined Arsenal from West Ham in a blockbuster £105 million deal in the summer transfer window, and Rio Ferdinand has been hugely impressed with the Englishman’s form this season.

In fairness to Rice though, he has made a huge difference for Arsenal as well.

The Gunners are a much more solid unit now, and the £105 million that Mikel Arteta paid for the midfielder now looks like an absolute snip.

The former West Ham defender was speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel about Rice’s start to the season.

And Rio shared Dec’s response when it was put to him that nobody is talking about his price-tag now:

“You know what, I text Declan this morning and just said testament to him, that no one’s talking about the price tag. And his response was absolutely bang on. Declan said – ‘I was doing the same thing at West Ham and no one wanted to speak about it’.”

That is absolutely spot on – Rice produced the goods consistently for the Hammers at the very highest level for four years.

He’s doing nothing new at Arsenal, he is just surrounded by better players.

The 24-year-old is an absolutely elite central midfielder, there can be no doubts about that. However, it seems to me like everyone came out of that £105 million deal better off.

West Ham and Arsenal have both improved as a team and the England international now has the opportunity to challenge for major honours year in, year out.

Declan Rice’s response to Rio Ferdinand has also put to bed talk of how much better he has been since moving to the Emirates.
