Rio Ferdinand sends clear message to angry West Ham fans after backlash following Man United clash

Rio Ferdinand sends a clear message to angry West Ham fans after the backlash to comments he made in the wake of the Manchester United clash.

Rio infuriated West Ham fans with a dig at brother Anton over the Man United winner at Old Trafford at the weekend.

West Ham lost a woeful and even game against a distinctly average Manchester United side 1-0 with the last kick of the match.

It was a bitter pill for West Ham to swallow. Especially after the Red Devils somehow beat the Hammers 2-1 in the dying moments of the reverse fixture.

The result had big implications in the race for the top four with Man United leapfrogging West Ham who can now be caught by Wolves – who have two games in hand – down in eighth.

There was more VAR controversy too with question marks over whether Edinson Cavani was offside in the build-up.

West Ham fans were sickened by the manner of the defeat.

So they did not take kindly to former West Ham star and academy graduate Rio ribbing brother Anton Ferdinand on Twitter alongside a picture of the offside call.

“How is this not offside VAR is so inconsistent its a disgrace!!” Anton said on Twitter after the game.

But his brother and fellow ex West Ham star Rio, who famously emerged as one of the club’s golden generation of talent, infuriated Hammers fans with his response.

“I’m afraid it was judged onside bruv,” Rio said alongside laughing and eyes emojis.

Rio Ferdinand sends clear message to angry West Ham fans after backlash following Man United clash

Some West Ham fans hurled abuse at Rio on social media with many still smarting over the ex Hammer’s comments about Declan Rice earlier this season and in the summer.

Now Rio has spoken out in his YouTube show FIVE, sending a clear message to West Ham fans after the backlash.

The former world leading defender says he loves West Ham but that Man United became his club after spending the best years of his glittering career there.

“I’m only being honest, I’m a pundit, that’s what you you’ve got to do, got to be honest, say what you see, and it wasn’t offside, it’s a goal man,” Rio said on his YouTube show FIVE.

“Listen at the end of the day our family is very torn between West Ham and Man United. I came through, Anton came through, at West Ham, love the club. Obviously I went out and went to Man United and done what I done via Leeds.

“But Man United become my club and the club that I love and all of my best years as a professional were there. My kids are all Man United fans. Anton and his kids are all West Ham fans so when West Ham and Man United play there’s a bit of a split in the house.

“But I love West Ham so it’s a bit of a funny game for me in that sense. A 0-0 draw is probably one that suits everybody but Man United go and win the game and I can celebrate that.”

Rio was once again asked about Declan Rice, his performance and and his comments on playing at Old Trafford.

But Rio simply replied ‘no comment’ and said he did not want ‘any more heat’ from West Ham fans.
