Rio Ferdinand has infuriated West Ham fans again with dig at brother Anton over the Man United winner at Old Trafford.
West Ham lost a woeful and even game against a distinctly average Manchester United side 1-0 with the last kick of the match.
It was a bitter pill for West Ham to swallow. Especially after the Red Devils somehow beat the Hammers 2-1 in the dying moments of the reverse fixture. That game saw Mark Noble miss a 93rd minute penalty to earn a draw, which was the least David Moyes’s side deserved.
Well this time it was a 93rd minute winner for Man United and another defeat West Ham definitely did not deserve.
The result had big implications in the race for the top four with Man United leapfrogging West Ham who can now be caught by Wolves – who have two games in hand – down in eighth.
There was more VAR controversy for West Ham to deal with too.
Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford both looked offside for the winning goal.
Cavani was played in down the left and his shoulder and head looked to be ahead of Aaron Cresswell’s foot.
The Uruguayan then passed the ball forward – rather than cut it back or sideways – across the box and Rashford ran in unmarked to tap home.
Despite being an extremely tight call the offside was barely checked by VAR for all of 12 seconds.
Rio Ferdinand infuriates West Ham fans again with dig at brother Anton over Man United winner
Former West Ham star and academy graduate Anton Ferdinand voiced his displeasure on Twitter alongside a picture of the offside call, saying: “How is this not offside VAR is so inconsistent its a disgrace!!”
But his brother and fellow ex West Ham star Rio Ferdinand, who famously emerged as one of the club’s golden generation of talent, infuriated Hammers fans with his response.
“I’m afraid it was judged onside bruv,” Rio said alongside laughing and eyes emojis.
You only need to read the replies to see many West Ham fans are far from happy with Rio.
And it is not the first time Rio has angered the club’s supporters.
It appears the former defender once adored by fans of the club who helped make him, doesn’t care that his relationship with many of them is in tatters.
Ferdinand senior upset West Ham fans in the summer when he tagged talisman Declan Rice in on a Twitter post urging his former club Manchester United to sign the midfield star.
The episode sullied Rio’s good name with a large section of West Ham supporters. And that was evident by their reaction when it was announced that Rio – and brother Anton – were named as the football ambassadors for PAI Capital’s doomed West Ham takeover efforts.
But then just a couple of weeks after putting his name to PAI Capital’s bid to buy West Ham from David Sullivan and David Gold, Ferdinand once again urged Manchester United to sign Rice.
“I think Declan Rice would be a massive addition to this squad. I’m a massive fan of his. I would love to see him keep progressing,” Ferdinand told his FIVE YouTube channel.
Ferdinand then overstepped the mark once again by pushing for Rice to leave West Ham – this time for lowly NEWCASTLE!
Following the Saudi takeover, Ferdinand suggested that the first port of call for the newly minted Magpies should be West Ham star Rice.
“I would be going to try and make a mad couple of signings,” Rio said in an episode of his banal FIVE show.
“Raheem Sterling’s not playing regular. I would go and ask him the question. I would go and ask Declan Rice. What’s going on?
“Them two would be the first two on my list. And I will go all out to get them. Then I would go all out to get Jesse Lingard.”
What a shame Rio Ferdinand seemingly does not care about his relationship with West Ham fans.
He has become antagonistic towards his old fanbase for no apparent reason.
There will be no coming back from this one.
