West Ham are interested in signing Juventus starlet Koni De Winter in the summer transfer window, but need to stay in the Premier League to have any chance of bringing him to East London.

According to a report from TuttoJuve, West Ham United are challenging the likes of Southampton and Crystal Palace for the 20-year-old defender’s signature this summer.

West Ham boss David Moyes is apparently a big fan of Koni De Winter and wants to bring the youngster to the London Stadium.

Central defence is definitely an area where the Hammers boss needs to strengthen with Angelo Ogbonna set to turn 35 soon, Craig Dawson having left in January and continual concerns about Kurt Zouma’s fitness.

West Ham were actually linked with a move to sign De Winter in January but he remained with Empoli in the end.

He is actually on loan with Empoli from Juventus, so when his loan deal ends, maybe the time will be right for the Hammers to pounce.

It now seems as though Moyes is ready to go back in for the Belgian wonderkid…

West Ham back in for Koni De Winter

TuttoJuve reckon that if the Hammers remain in the Premier League this season, we will make a move to sign the 20-year-old Juventus star.

I think he’d be a fantastic addition for us.

De Winter can play as a centre-back, central midfielder or even a full-back…on both sides!

In 12 Serie A appearances this season, the 20-year-old has averaged 1.1 tackles and 4.1 clearances per game. He’s also won an average of 1.2 aerial duels per match and has recorded a completion rate of 86% from 35.8 passes per game (Who Scored).

The Belgian is a real athlete and standing at 6ft 2in tall, he is an imposing physical specimen.

Tutto Juve claim that Juventus could demand as much as £18 million for Koni De Winter, and I think that would represent exceptional value for West Ham, especially considering how many positions he can play in.

Obviously the Hammers need to remain in the Premier League in order to have any chance of getting this deal over the line though.
