Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Declan Rice form West Ham United in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to a report from The Sun who claim that Newcastle are ‘queuing up’ at Rice’s door, ahead of what will be a massive battle for his signature this summer.

Newcastle will allegedly have to battle the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester, City and Liverpool for Dec’s signature (The Sun).

And West Ham have apparently privately accepted that the 24-year-old midfielder will leave the London Stadium before the start of next season.

Losing Rice will be a massive blow, of course it will. However, the Hammers will be powerless to prevent it from happening, having failed to match his ambitions. And the most important thing now will be to get maximum value for Dec and to replace him with at least two top-class central midfielders.

The Sun reckon that with their new-found wealth, the Magpies could launch a surprise move to sign the West Ham captain in the summer transfer window.

Eddie Howe is doing a magnificent job at St James’ Park, and the Toon are clearly on their way to becoming a real force in the Premier League.

The Magpies are already flexing their muscles by reportedly trying to prise Harrison Ashby away from West Ham in the January transfer window.

That would be hard enough to take, but losing Declan Rice to Newcastle as well would be a sign that we just aren’t on the same planet as them at the moment.

The thing is, the majority of West Ham fans have accepted that the 24-year-old will not be playing in the famous Claret and Blue next season.

I have always thought that he would return to Chelsea, although now it’s looking more likely that Arsenal could win the race for his signature.

If Newcastle manage to convince him to move to the north east though, it will feel like a real hammer blow. And it will once again prove that money in football is all powerful.
