It’s little wonder why AS Roma have just rejected West Ham United’s recent bid for Italy international Nicolo Zaniolo.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Hammers lodged a bid to sign the 23-year-old Roma star on a one-year loan, with an obligation to buy him in January 2024.

However, there was a big caveat that West Ham wanted included in the deal, according to the Italian publication.

Hammers boss David Moyes was first linked with a move to sign Zaniolo last week.

The Italian would be an incredibly exciting addition for West Ham. However, it’s clear to see that we won’t be getting him this month, unless we drastically change the structure of our offer…

West Ham make strange Nicolo Zaniolo

According to Corriere dello Sport, the Hammers wanted the 23-year-old on loan from now up until January 2024. We then apparently wanted an obligation to buy him for €30 million (£26 million) BUT with a condition that we had 30 points under our belt in the Premier League by the end of December 2023.

That’s actually laughable isn’t it, considering that we’re past halfway in January and currently have a grand total of, drum roll please…18 points!

Zaniolo is a world-class player in the making. Italy boss Roberto Mancini once described the 23-year-old as an ‘extraordinary’ player (Goal). So if there is a genuine chance to sign him, why on earth are we messing about with these bizarre offers?

If David Moyes really wants the Italian at the London Stadium, why aren’t the owners doing everything they can to make it happen?

West Ham are at a stage now where we can go one of two ways. Bringing in players like the Roma ace would be a sign of true progress.

However, missing out on the 23-year-old will symbolise the fact that we’re nowhere near where we need to be.

Nicolo Zaniolo would take West Ham to another level entirely. It will be such a shame if we don’t grasp this opportunity to sign him.
