West Ham moving Thilo Kehrer on to Monaco could open the door for David Moyes to sign a Premier League captain in January.
Thilo Kehrer is set to leave West Ham to join Monaco on loan for the rest of the season, and the French club have an obligation to buy him in the summer, as confirmed via Fabrizio Romano this morning.
Hammers boss David Moyes needs to bolster his squad, not weaken it, so the Scot will surely be looking to bring in some defensive reinforcements before the January transfer window slams shut.
One player who we’ve been heavily linked with this winter is Wolves centre-back Max Kilman, and the Black Country outfit are demanding around £30 million for their 26-year-old club captain.
Kilman would be a brilliant signing for West Ham, and the fact that he’s left-footed makes him the ideal long-term replacement for Angelo Ogbonna.
Now it seems like the Hammers could be in a position to push through a deal for the Wolves skipper…

West Ham could use Thilo Kehrer financial boost to make big signing
According to a report from Football Transfers, the Hammers could now ramp up our interest in signing Max Kilman.
Funds are tight at West Ham right now, and although we won’t be getting the £9.5 million for Kehrer until the summer, Monaco are paying us a loan fee of just over £400k now.
In addition to that, the German’s sizeable £80k-a-week wages (Spotrac) will be off our books now as well.
It just gives us that slight bit of wriggle room. Let’s say we sign Max Kilman for £30 million, we won’t be paying anything like that in the first instalment.
So if West Ham manage to sell another player as well as Thilo Kehrer – someone like Said Benrahma or Nayef Aguerd – then we’ll be in a strong position to sign Kilman.
If Moyes does bring the 26-year-old Wolves captain to the London Stadium in January, we’ll be in really goos shape heading into the second half of the season.
