West Ham United could be set to lose a key player to a Premier League club in the January transfer window.

The January transfer window opens up tomorrow, and a Premier League giant is allegedly eyeing up a move for West Ham United’s star player.

Hammers boss David Moyes will surely be a busy man in the transfer market this winter, and the Scot recently admitted that he needs to add a couple of players to his ranks this winter.

Funds are tight at the London Stadium though, so if Moyes is going to spend, he will need to sell first to generate the cash.

And that’s where Lucas Paqueta could come in. The 26-year-old had apparently agreed to join Manchester City in the summer, before news emerged about potential betting breaches.

West Ham kept hold of the Brazilian in the end, but despite the fact that the investigation into irregular betting patterns surrounding him continues to rumble on in the background, it seems like he could leave the club this winter…

West Ham could lose key man in the January window

Paqueta has been truly stunning for the Hammers this season, and he is undoubtedly one of our best three players alongside Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told Give Me Sport how the South American is still on the Manchester City radar ahead of the January window:

“They spent big in the summer, even though we all know they got in excess of £100million for Declan Rice. They spent that money in a really good way. There’s always talk about Lucas Paqueta as well. He almost went in the summer to Manchester City. I just wonder whether Manchester City will look again, and try and test the resolve of West Ham United to try and bring someone like Paqueta to the Etihad Stadium.”

I’m sorry, but I just can’t see the Hammers board sanctioning a deal to sell Paqueta midway through the season.

If Man City come knocking with an enormous offer, then that of course could change, but I think a summer exit will be more likely for the Brazilian.

Losing Paqueta in the January transfer window would be a disaster for West Ham, but the onus would then be on Moyes to spend the huge amount of money that we receive for him smartly.

There are plenty of top-class players out there, we got Mohammed Kudus for £38 million after all! I’m still hoping that the Brazilian stays at the London Stadium, but it might just be an impossible task to keep him out of Man City’s clutches.
