West Ham United earned an absolutely vital three points with a 2-0 win against Arsenal at the Emirates last night.

What a win it was for West Ham against Arsenal in the Premier League – the boys put in a terrific all round performance as a team, and they were more than deserving of their victory.

Hammers boss David Moyes finally ended his 72 game winless run away from home against Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool last night, and Jarrod Bowen highlighted the need for the players’ mindset to change now.

It was an absolute pleasure to watch us play last night. We beat one of the best teams on the planet in their own backyard, and Moyes and his boys deserve huge praise.

However, someone outside of the club gave us a helping hand as well – Mr Craig Pawson. The 44-year-old was on VAR duty at the Emirates last night, and he oversaw a massive call that played a key role in our victory…

Thanks Craig Pawson for West Ham win over Arsenal

The 44-year-old was on VAR duty at the Emirates last night, and we told you right here on Hammers News on Christmas Eve that that was good news for us.

That proved to be exactly the case. We scored early on in the game through a Tomas Soucek goal, after Jarrod Bowen cut the ball back into the box from the byline.

The photos we’ve seen since makes it look like the ball was clearly out, but Pawson ruled in our favour and the goal was given.

The 44-year-old has given numerous decisions in our favour over the past couple of years.

He was the referee for our clash with Liverpool at the London Stadium back in 2021 – a game that we won 3-2.

During that match, Pawson failed to even book Aaron Cresswell for what many thought was a red-card offence after his tackle on Jordan Henderson – a decision that sent Jurgen Klopp into meltdown (Daily Mail).

Then, in February of this year, he refused to award Chelsea a penalty after Tomas Soucek stopped the ball going into our net with his hand. It was a baffling decision at the time, but one that really worked in our favour. It ended up being a vital point for us on the road to Premier League safety.

He has some history with Arsenal as well, but it’s not as pretty to read as it is from the West Ham fans’ perspective. Pawson was the man who sent off David Luiz and Bernd Leno during the Gunners’ 2-1 defeat to Wolves back in 2021.

Hector Bellerin posted an Instagram picture after the game, depicting Pawson fist-bumping the then Wolves skipper Conor Coady at full-time. Make of that what you will.

And the referee was at it again last night, doing a massive favour for the Hammers. West Ham United’s win over Arsenal last night was a vitally important one, and I’m hoping that Pawson either officiates many more of our games this season, or is on VAR duty for them.
