Michail Antonio has a really big problem after West Ham United’s win over Freiburg – view

There is absolutely no way Michail Antonio gets back into this current West Ham United side when he returns from injury.

West Ham striker Michail Antonio has been in really poor form this season, and the injury that he suffered whilst playing for Jamaica last night rubbed salt into the wounds for him and us as a club.

The 33-year-old Hammers hitman is completely finished at Premier League level as far as I’m concerned, and it seems as though David Moyes agrees with that sentiment after a report emerged last night claiming that the forward could be off to Saudi Arabia in January.

Listen, Antonio has been a fantastic servant for West Ham over the past eight years or so. However, there’s no room for sentiment at elite level sport.

It’s clearly time for Antonio to move on, and Thursday night’s win over Freiburg proved just how much better we are without him…

Michail Antonio is finished at West Ham

The performance against Freiburg really was a joy to watch. The front three of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta looked menacing throughout the game and pressed with intensity and aggression.

When Antonio leads the line for us, he often strolls about and spends more time on the floor than he does on his feet.

On Thursday night, the front three interchanged positions brilliantly, and were a nightmare to pick up and mark as a result.

And it goes without saying that all three of them are streets ahead of Antonio when it comes down to technical ability.

Moyes must realise that we looked like a far better and more dangerous attacking outfit with Kudus, Bowen and Paqueta playing across the front-line.

Michail Antonio is a real favourite of West Ham boss David Moyes, so it will be very hard indeed for the Scot to drop him.

The Hammers boss needs to do exactly that though, if we are to enjoy a successful 2023/24 campaign on all fronts. Our 2-0 win over Freiburg proved what’s possible if Moyes leaves Antonio out when he’s back from injury.
