Lone wolf David Moyes has responded to new claims that he’s leaving West Ham when his contract expires at the end of the season.

West Ham spent Christmas in the top six and have qualified for the last 16 of the European football for the third successive season having won a first major trophy for 43 years six months ago.

And the Hammers will start the new year above the likes of Man United, Newcastle, Chelsea and Brighton in the sixth with a point at Arsenal on Thursday night.

So you might expect speculation over the future of manager David Moyes to quieten down for a few months at least.

Lone wolf Moyes responds to new claims

Not a chance it seems.

A journalist claimed this week that sources have informed him of a seven-word message Moyes has told close friends – that he will leave the Hammers at the end of the campaign.

It is reported that Moyes has told those friends he “won’t be at West Ham next year” and adds that the Scot ‘has had no signals from club chiefs they want him long-term’.

And it is also stated that work has already started in the search for Moyes’ successor.

‘I don’t have many friends’

Speaking to the press, as reported by The Sun, Moyes was asked about the claim he had told friends he won’t be at the London Stadium next season. And he has questioned the credibility of the report because he has very few close mates.

“I don’t have many friends, let me tell you, so I don’t know who that is. That would be the first thing I’d say,” Moyes said.

“My intention is to keep working. I want to keep moving the team on and I’m sure we will get around to talking very shortly.”

Amid the fresh speculation about Moyes’ future, sporting director Mark Noble has also made the expectations of the West Ham board for this season perfectly clear.
