Kalvin Phillips tells West Ham fans exactly when he’ll be at his best

Kalvin Phillips really hasn’t had the best start to life with West Ham United at all has he.

West Ham brought Kalvin Phillips to the London Stadium on loan in the January transfer window, but he has looked well off the pace so far, and David Moyes admitted that we’ll have to be patient with the midfielder as he works his way up to full fitness.

He endured a horror debut during our 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, and then he put in two distinctly average substitute performances against Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.

Things went from bad to worse for Phillips on Saturday, when he was sent off midway through the second-half as we were chasing the game against Forest.

The Hammers looked like we’ve dropped a ball by signing the 28-year-old on loan from Manchester City.

We didn’t need another central midfielder – we desperately needed a left winger and a striker. Even the additions of a centre-back and a new right-back were needed more urgently than a new midfielder.

I’m not saying that Phillips isn’t a good player because he most certainly is. Before he moved to West Ham though, he hadn’t started a Premier League game since May!

So when can we actually expect him to be up to speed? He’s just told us exactly when…

Kalvin Phillips tells West Ham fans when he’ll be at his best

The Man City owned midfielder spoke to the press after he received his marching orders at the City Ground.

And Phillips highlighted how he’ll be ‘at it’ the next game he plays, as quoted by WHUFC.com:

“I’ll be at it at the next game [I play]. It’s not fitness. Having said that, I’ve got a few days training now and I’m going to be working as hard as possible.

Well, after his red card during our defeat to Nottingham Forest, he’ll be suspended for our game against Brentford.

He’ll be back and available for selection for our clash with Everton on March 2nd – just under two weeks away.

He had better be up to speed by then because if he isn’t, there will be really challenging questions asked of Moyes as to why he signed Kalvin Phillips for West Ham.

Let’s hope we see him at his best at some point during his loan spell with the Hammers.
