Kalvin Phillips has made a really honest admission after he received a red card during West Ham United’s defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
On loan West Ham midfielder Kalvin Phillips has experienced a really tough start to life at the London Stadium, and David Moyes recently admitted that the 28-year-old isn’t quite up to speed physically just yet.
Moyes started Phillips against Bournemouth at the start of the month, before dropping him down to the bench for our clashes with Manchester United and Arsenal.
The former Leeds man then started our game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and it was another dismal day at the office for him.
I’m just hoping that he learns from his mistakes and gets up to speed quickly, otherwise his loan move to West Ham will go down as one of the worst of all-time…
Kalvin Phillips makes bizarre admission after red card
The Manchester City owned midfielder spoke to reporters after the defeat to Forest at the City Ground two days ago.
And Phillips explained how he desperately wanted an answer from the referee who sent him off, as quoted by the Sun:
“I waited outside the referee’s room to have a chat with him. But after half an hour he hadn’t come out. I don’t know if he knew I was there or not. I didn’t want to batter him. I just wanted to have a conversation about it. In the end, I’m going home without saying my piece. I’m just disappointed, more so because I’m working to get myself back into a position where I can help — but now I’ve got to miss a game.”
It was a couple of really silly bookings for Phillips to pick up, let’s be clear about that.
However, Tom Bramall did seem to be really card happy during a game that wasn’t in the slightest bit dirty.
Still, the midfielder surely can’t argue about either of the bookings he picked up. They were both completely unnecessary and the simple fact of the matter is that he gave the ref a decision to make.
So why he waited for an hour to speak to Bramall really beggars belief. It was a sending off that cannot be disputed in my opinion, yet Kalvin Phillips clearly doesn’t believe that he deserved the red card.
I reckon he needs to be a little bit more honest with himself here. Is it a diversion tactic to distract form his poor form? Maybe, but either way, he needs to get up to speed, and fast.
