The Michail Antonio miss vs Liverpool yesterday ended up proving to be really costly for West Ham United.

Michail Antonio should have scored for West Ham early on in the first-half against Liverpool at Anfield yesterday.

Liverpool ended up winning the match 3-1, but we really should have taken something from the match in my opinion.

A mixutre of profligate finishing and top-class saves from Alisson Becker meant that we left Anfield empty handed.

One of our best chances fell to Antonio when he was left free just seven or eight yards out from goal. He skewed his header hopelessly wide of goal though – it was just so typically Antonio. However, Klopp has defended the 33-year-old for his miss…

Jurgen Klopp shares reason for shocking Michail Antonio miss vs Liverpool

The Liverpool boss addressed the media yesterday afternoon after his side won 3-1 against the Hammers at Anfield.

Klopp responded when asked what he thought about the challenge that West Ham posed, as quoted by Liverpool’s official website:

“West Ham as well – and you arrive here and you know it is a really tricky opponent. Then on top of that, I am not sure but I think with the first whistle the wind started. I didn’t remember before the game it was windy and then we got out and it was like, ‘Huh?’ You saw it this time with the big chance of Antonio, I think, the header he missed. I’m pretty sure if the wind is not there that is even more.”

I think that’s a little kind from Klopp to say the least – Antonio should have been scoring that chance, with or without wind.

As Hammers fans, we know all too well that the 33-year-old will miss more than his fair share of chances throughout the course of the season.

On the flip-side though, he puts in so much work for us that is absolutely vital to the way in which Moyes wants his team to play.

If we are to make some genuine progress over the next year or so, Moyes needs to bring in an upgrade on Micky. Someone who has similar attributes but is actually a decent finisher as well.

Klopp made an excuse for the Michail Antonio miss vs Liverpool but I wonder if he would have been so kind behind closed doors had it been one of his own players. I doubt it very much.
