Jarrod Bowen proved last night exactly why West Ham United are not overly reliant on James Ward-Prowse.

West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse was left on the bench by David Moyes last night, as Jarrod Bowen started the match as a central striker.

The Hammers beat Arsenal 3-1 in the Carabao Cup fourth round at the London Stadium – it really was a terrific result that gave everyone involved with the club a huge lift.

To win last night’s game so comfortably without some of our regulars including Kurt Zouma and of course Ward-Prowse, was a big achievement.

The 29-year-old midfielder has been superb since joining West Ham, with two goals and six assists to his name already (Transfermarkt), and his incredible all-round stats prove just how important he is to our side.

His ability from set-pieces has taken us to a whole new level from free-kicks and corners, so I was slightly concerned to see how we would do from dead-ball situations last night.

Bowen proved that we have nothing to fear though…

Jarrod Bowen proved that West Ham won’t miss James Ward-Prowse

The 26-year-old Hammers star was on corner duty last night and my word were his deliveries impressive!

Bowen swung the ball in with his sweet left foot time and time again, and his delightful delivery gave us the lead inside the first-half when Arsenal defender Ben White nodded into his own net.

The great thing about this is that we shouldn’t become so one-dimensional when taking set-pieces. We all know just how good Ward-Prowse is from corners and free kicks, but to have another option from them is absolutely brilliant.

It will keep the opposition guessing, especially from the perspective of whether we take in swinging or out swinging set-pieces.

If James Ward-Prowse is forced to sit out a game or two through suspension or injury, I’m not as worried now as I would have been before after Jarrod Bowen’s exceptional deliveries form corners last night.
