Jamie Carragher went absolutely mental at an incident that occurred in the 60th minute during 4-1 Aston Villa win over West Ham United yesterday.
West Ham were beaten 4-1 by Aston Villa yesterday afternoon at Villa Park, and it was a disappointing day all around for us.
Hammers boss David Moyes would have been fuming with the performance of his team, but he wasn’t the only one spitting feathers at Villa Park.

Something that happened during the game absolutely incensed Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.
Nicolo Zaniolo went down in the 60th minute holding his head, after a challenge with Edson Alvarez.
It was clear to see that the Italian hadn’t even been struck on the head, but David Coote was forced to blow up and stop the game due to protocols.
And Carragher went ballistic…
Jamie Carragher loses the plot after 60th minute incident during 4-1 Aston Villa win over West Ham
Carragher was on the co-comms yesterday and could not hide his frustrations when Coote had to blow up after Zaniolo went down when West Ham were in a good position going forward, with the score finely poised at 2-1.
During Sky Sports’ broadcast of the game, Carragher said (Sunday, October 22nd, 5:50pm):

“No! This is, honestly I’ve had enough of this, people are milking this head injury stuff. We’ve seen the challenge, there’s nothing wrong with his head. Get on with the game, it’s killing the game and it’s happening too much. People go down, hold their head and know the game will be stopped when they’ve lost the ball in a dangerous position. Look at that, this is a nonsense. This has got to stop. It was brought in to help players and they’re now tasking advantage of it.”
The way I believe we go forward from here, is a rule whereby anyone claiming to be suffering from a head injury MUST leave the field of play for a minimum of three minutes.
I believe this would eradicate the problem overnight. The players with genuine head injuries will then remain off the pitch longer and mostly likely be substituted off from the field of play.
And those who are feigning injury will have to miss three minutes of action. Nobody will want to go down feigning an injury only to be forced onto the sidelines for a few minutes, letting their teammates down in the process. It just makes sense to me.
Aston Villa beat West Ham 4-1 yesterday, deservedly so. However, it still grates me to think about what Zaniolo did. The lawmakers need to do something quickly before too many big games are influenced by play-acting.
