Injured Lucas Paqueta posted about his video gaming exploits in the wake of West Ham’s dismal defeat to Spurs.

A second half performance which mirrored much of what West Ham fans have seen for over a year now resulted in a 2-0 loss to bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The Hammers were plunged ever deeper into relegation danger by Tottenham and the home fans took great pleasure in goading the away support as you would expect.

What was galling for West Ham supporters is the fact that the first half showed Spurs were there for the taking.

The hosts went into the game off the back of consecutive defeats, without manager Antonio Conte, missing four key players and with star Son Heung-min on the bench.

But West Ham couldn’t take advantage, registering just one shot on target all game.

Many feel the team missed the influence of injured Brazilian midfielder Lucas Paqueta. That is a bit of a stretch given his lack of impact on West Ham’s season to this point. But he had started to look more at home in the Premier League of late.

When a team is in a relegation battle fans want to see that everyone is pulling in the same direction and willing one another on.

A couple of weeks ago injured Gianluca Scamacca showed his support for the team from home as he posted a picture watching the match on television.

And last weekend when West Ham played Chelsea, injured defender Kurt Zouma and Alphonse Areola – who was also out injured for that game – sat on the bench with the team to show their support in person.

They are little details fans pick up on when all is not well with the team.

So what Paqueta did last night has not gone down well with some Hammers fans.

Injured Paqueta posted about his video gaming exploits in the wake of the West Ham defeat to Spurs.

Paqueta retweeted a post from his own gaming channel just after 8pm showing a picture of West Ham’s £51m record signing all smiles and doing holding up his hands to show the score on his video game, which looks to be Call of Duty.

While some West Ham supporters were not overly bothered, others were understandably annoyed.

Many responded to the post telling Paqueta there is a time and a place.

West Ham fan website KUMB also questioned the wisdom and timing of the post.

“Not ideal timing, being retweeted shortly after a 2-0 defeat at Tottenham,” KUMB’s post said.
