And Saturday was no exception for West Ham and boss Moyes as the Hammers battle to stay in the Premier League.
West Ham’s recent 1-1 draw at Newcastle United was seen as a positive result. But in the context of what has happened with the Magpies since, it looks more like a missed opportunity.
West Ham head to north London for a clash with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday evening.

Tottenham have been inconsistent this season highlighted by the fact they beat Man City before getting a 4-1 hiding at Leicester last weekend.
Spurs followed that up with a 1-0 defeat to AC Milan in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday night.
West Ham go into the game off the back of a 1-1 draw with Chelsea which looked good on paper but was – like he Newcastle game – actually a missed opportunity against an out of sorts team.
The clash with Spurs looked to be presenting West Ham with another real chance to pick up a much-needed three points.
The Hammers have been boosted ahead of the game with the news that five key men including the manager are missing for Spurs while West Ham bogeyman Son Heung-min could be rested.

Results once again went seriously badly for West Ham ahead of the game, leaving the Irons in the fire of the bottom three – as predicted could happen by Hammers News this time last week.
Southampton, Everton and Bournemouth all won while Nottingham Forest picked up a valuable point against Man City.
Surprisingly, though, it was what happened elsewhere which could prove more damaging.

A draw or win for Newcastle would have been good for West Ham as it could have helped demoralise Tottenham.

Because Spurs would be going into the West Ham clash knowing that a win would still not have be enough to lift them above the Geordies into fourth place.
And it would have added to the pressure on Spurs’ shoulders to keep pace with Newcastle.
Instead Tottenham now have a huge incentive to beat West Ham as three points lifts them above Eddie Howe’s side into that last Champions League spot.
So where Spurs could have been demotivated by that result they will instead be highly motivated.
Let’s hope West Ham are equally motivated to perform by the fact results elsewhere have plunged them deeper into the mire.
