Incredible Edson Alvarez stats for West Ham vs Everton prove that he’s our unsung hero

Brilliant Edson Alvarez was absolutely incredible for West Ham United against Everton this afternoon.

West Ham beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park today, and Edson Alvarez wrapped up the win with the final goal deep into stoppage time.

However, the Mexican’s contribution was worth so much more than the goal that he scored at the end.

David Moyes will be delighted with the fact that he managed to sign the 26-year-old from Ajax – Chelsea tried to beat us to his signature by all accounts.

He can actually look quite awkward at times with his gangly, unconventional running and playing style, but looks can be deceiving. Moyes has signed an absolute star in the form of the 26-year-old midfielder.

Alvarez has already firmly established himself as an absolutely vital member of Moyes’s starting lineup, and he is a cult hero amongst the fans.

Incredible Edson Alvarez stats for West Ham vs Everton

The 26-year-old midfielder’s all-round performance kind of went under the radar this afternoon. He bossed the central midfield battle and looked like a truly top-drawer player.

His stats made for some mightily impressive reading as well.

He had 78 touches, made two tackles and four dribbles, had two shots on target and wasn’t dispossessed once. In addition to that, he made 52 passes and recorded an impressive completion rate of 82.7%(Who Scored).

Alvarez is absolutely crucial to us. The way that he marshals the space between the midfield and the back four is simply exquisite, and his tenacious tackling and all-round aggression gives a real edge to our play in the middle of the park.

The goal that he scored today was the cherry on top of the icing on the cake, and he deserves it more than anyone.

Edson Alvarez was quite simply superb for West Ham against Everton today, and I really hope he manages to maintain that form between now and the end of the season.

If he does just that, I don’t see any reason why he can’t fire us to a top seven finish in the Premier League this season and who knows, maybe we could even push for sixth spot.
