It will be their last warm-up game before their World Cup campaign begins against South Korea next weekend.

Tomas Soucek sends ‘sorry’ message on West Ham future

Tomas Soucek was reluctant to speak about West Ham in his press conference before the Czech Republic vs Guatemala.

He apologised to those demanding an update on his future, as he decided to keep his cards close to his chest instead.

“I’m sorry, but now I’m fully focused on the World Cup because we’re here with the boys,” Soucek explained, via Livesport.

“We’re playing big games at the World Cup, it’s been our dream for several years, and now we’re here.

“What will happen at the club will happen later, after some vacation. Now I’m fully prepared for the Czech national team.

“I put what happened last season aside, and I’m 100 percent dedicated to the national team. Now I have a month to clear my head.”

The World Cup is a big deal for any player, let alone the Czech team, who are making their first appearance in 20 years.

Nobody could blame Soucek for focusing on his international team, but his answer will make West Ham fans nervous.

Losing him and Jarrod Bowen in the same window would leave the Hammers with hardly any leadership.

If Soucek were to move this summer, a return to his former club, Slavia Prague, might be the likeliest option.

Soucek has already been linked with Slavia Prague this summer, which would be a fairytale end to his career.

“That’s gossip that’s spreading around the Czech Republic,” he addressed the rumours. “I’m calm and enjoying football where I am, and that’s here at the World Cup.”

While West Ham fans will be wishing Soucek well at the World Cup, an early exit from the tournament would be beneficial.

They would then learn Soucek’s decision much sooner than if the Czech Republic reached the latter stages.
