Fabrizio Romano has delivered an emphatic Gianluca Scamacca to AC Milan verdict with the West Ham United striker’s future up in the air.

The West Ham striker has experienced a difficult start to life at the London Stadium since his £35 million summer move from Sassuolo.

Scamacca has struggled to fit into the defensive system deployed by David Moyes every week, whereby he is often isolated as a lone centre-forward.

The 24-year-old Italian has only seven goals to his name in 25 appearances for the Hammers so far (Transfermarkt).

Scamacca’s nightmare season got even worse last week, when he was dropped by his representatives World Soccer Agency.

And a recent report claimed that AC Milan could sign the Italy international in the summer transfer window (Pianeta Milan). But is there any truth to that claim?

The ex-Sassuolo ace’s future at the London Stadium appears to be up in the air.

As things stand though, he is still very much a West Ham player. Romano told Caught Offside how we shouldn’t read too much into reports linking Scamacca with AC Milan:

“I’m aware there have been stories linking Gianluca Scamacca with AC Milan but I wouldn’t read too much into them for now. Of course he’s linked with return to Italy as he’s Italian and Serie A clubs know him very well. I’m sure Milan will sign a new striker next summer, but there’s nothing advanced or concrete for Scamacca yet as he has to pick new agents after leaving his former agent; this is crucial step. Also West Ham have not spoken to any club about Scamacca.”

I really hope that Moyes manages to get the best out of Scamacca and that he ends up being a hero in East London.

He certainly has the talent needed to succeed in the Premier League with the Hammers.

Now he is back fit, it will be vital for him to start producing the goods for West Ham on a consistent basis, if we are to have any chance of enjoying a successful second half of the season.

I really would be fuming if we gave up on the striker after just one season.

It wouldn’t surprise me one little bit if AC Milan wanted to sign Gianluca Scamacca. For now though, it seems as though there is no concrete interest in the 24-year-old from the Italians.
